Woke up this morning (7am. ish) and all was in darkness, not even the reassuring glow of the clock to illuminate the room. After stumbling around in the pitch dark I looked outside and all was in darkness there too, including the street lights. Without warning all manner of things started happening, alarms sounding and street lamps flickering outside while computers and fridges came on inside. I put the telly on to see if the Scots had invaded but there was no mention of any power cut. Maybe they have a new apprentice at Heysham who mis-read the instructions 'Switch off After Use'.
The power wasn't off long but it just goes to show how much we rely on these services for every day living.

Re... "The power wasn't off long but it just goes to show how much we rely on these services for every day living. " How true this is.... We have quite a few power cuts in Cyprus. During the last one I said..."well at least the central heating will be OK because it is oil" What a stupid statement, the pumps run on electricity. We have to set the alarm clock, the video, the microwave and the Sky box. We also had to reset the Central heating controller because it seems to need a new battery!!. Regards. Trev..

We had one at Christmas. We were just sitting there when all of a sudden we were plunged into darkness. Luckily we always have lots of candles around the place so we weren't without light. We went to the front door and up and down the road there were other people popping out with candles. It wasn't off for too long, not like those poor people in Rossendale.
