Very true, Bay Bird. There used to be many people on this Forum , and many postings every day. Sadly these times are no more it would seem. A few of us are hanging on, but it seems that we harbour a forlorn hope that it will spring to life again. As you may have noticed the organisers who are the administrators are nowhere to seen on here. So without the leaders leading it would seem that the Forum is dead. I hate saying that but it is what I have been thinking for many many months now. I would like to thank Keith for his very brave efforts at keeping it going, He has been brilliant with his DIY and his holiday exploits.

Thanks for those kind words Trev - now I am blushing.
I see no reason to abandon the forum completely, although I am personally pressed for time at the moment.
I haven't even started writing the story of a recent trip to sunny Chester.
This first £million is a lot harder to make than I realised. I just need 1,000,000 people to send me a £1 and I am well on my way.

Well surely people could afford £1, it's not that much to ask for. You have had yet another Holiday in Chester then. My wife is from there originally.

First time we have been and we as we had the reluctant hiker with us so we avoided the shops and used it as more of a base to explore the area. Canal Museum at Ellsmere Port, Blue Planet Aquarium, Chester Zoo and Quarry Bank Mill at Wilmslow on the way Home. We walked the Walls of Chester itself and sampled the food and some of the real ales on offer in the pubs. I got some decent pictures which I will upload at some point.

Your list of places to visit in the area sounds quite good. I will look forward to the pictures at some point.
Cheers. Trev..

I still have a peep now and then. Me and the cook have just got back from a week in Lancaster and Morecambe. I'd scribe a trip report if I thought more than a couple of people were going to read it.

You should have given me a shout, we could have met up for beer/ coffee /shrimps/ cake etc.
I tend to write the stories anyway as a diary for us to look back on when we are too old to remember.

We were staying at the Lancaster Central Travelodge, and got the bus to Morecambe last Sunday morning.
Plan was to watch some of the vehicles arrive in the Bradford to Morecambe Historical Vehicle Run, and then go and meet my brother for a few pints in the Tivoli.
It was blowing a gale, and chucking it down. So ended up in the Winter Gardens as there were quite a few vintage motorbikes on show.
There were a couple of small marquees set up in the Midland Hotel car park. The wind was so strong it blew one away!
Went to the Tivoli at 1200 sharp, and was served the first pint of Samuel Smiths of the day. The froth had a dead fly in it!
The Tivoli is a great pub though, and soon fills up with 'salt of the earth' types.

Never been into the Tivoli but if they offer free food - might give it a try.

I used to go in the Tivoli many years ago, they used to serve a lot of food then but it was not free .It was a nice pub then .I have not been in since. I go into the Kings Arm's for a pint of the Bomber ale. I use a wheelchair so they is a bit more room to move about there.

It may be sad, but I have never been in the Tivoli. I have however been in the Kings arms, although I have never eaten in there. We used to have our REACT meetings in the upstairs rooms. Not before collecting a pint from the bar I hasten to add.

We had lunch in the Kings Arms last Friday. They have a daily offer on, and Friday as you'd expect is Fish & chips, served with peas, a slice of bread & butter, and a mug of tea/coffee. £3.95 or £4.95 for a mega. Good value, but it was odd to get the tea served in a wide coffee cup with brown sugar. The Kings Arms is one of the those places where your feet stick to the carpets! They've moved the gents loo upstairs too. It was a bit sad to see a big For Sale sign outside The Eidsforth Hotel... www.rightmove.co.uk/commercial-property-for-sale/property-27144192.htmlThere's a For Sale(?) sign outside The Chieftain too. Yorkshire Street was as glum as usual, a couple of the premises at the Regent Road end have suffered severe fire damage and need knocking down. The Forsberg sculpture thingy has been moved to the prom opposite Regent Road, making it an easier target for vandalism. A Thora Hird plaque has been put up outside the Eric Bartholemew 'spoons.

I've eaten in the Kings Arms recently and agree it was good value.
I was there earlier this month late.
VoL closed at 02.00 and some of us decided to revisit Morecambe night life and found ourselves in KA until 03.00.
We discovered we are too old for that sort of thing these days !
