We had an outing to the South Lakes Wildlife Park near to Dalton in Furness and what a wonderful day it turned out to be.
Once we had negotiated the humps, bumps, bollards and chicanes in Dalton-in Furness, we eventually found the place and we were free to enjoy the sights and smells of the wildlife.
Entrance is free over the Winter and it is fairly quiet.
This is a Red Crested Pochard
Nice pussy cat
Waiting for a turn on the top.
I always find giraffes to be quite comical to look at but Mrs Keef and The Reluctant Hiiker made a new friend when they fed it
Reindeer relaxing after a busy time with Santa.
and still the gormless looks continued.
This Peacock was glowing in the morning sun
Mrs Keef didn't like the way this emu was following her around.
It is great to see the animals running freely amongst the visitors but these Black and White Ruffed Lemurs are a bit intimidating as they run around in gangs. The also make one hell of a racket.
Beautiful plumage
This parrot came swooping down and landed on a fence next to us, I was talking to it and although it was listening, our conversation was very one sided. The encounter ended with a loud squak and violent wing flapping.
The keepers hang chickens on telegraph poles and the tiger effortlessly climbs up and gets them. The tiger then climbs onto a platform and makes light work of them.
Only feathers remain after the eating frenzy, leaving little for the magpie which bravely swooped in for a free lunch.
It started to get quite chilly as the afternoon sun started to go down so we headed for home.
The drive back was very pleasant and the views over the bay as we came down the motorway were spectacular. Entering Morecambe, I just had to stop and get some photos of the spectacular sunset from Scalestones Point.
Venus and Cupid looked wonderful with the sunset as a backdrop.
These are just a few of the many shots I took
A spectacular end to a very enjoyable day.
