This came through the letter box this morning and caused some amusement at Keefy Towers. There are 3 more sides of this A4 newsletter but this is by far the best page. So the MBI's are planning a marina in Morecambe, this has to be an early April Fool's joke, hasn't it? I must have missed it, where a Political Party have stated that they would like to see Ugly Tower Blocks on the sea front. I am no expert on marinas but the ones I have seen are closed to everyone except boat owners for legitimate security reasons. How would 'The Beachcomber Project' offer substantial benefits to local residents? The second criteria 'or cash to the Council' appears to be possible but at the expense of another public amenity.

I thought it only right to offer them an opportunity to respond.
Copy of the email I sent.

I am no expert on marinas but the ones I have seen are closed to everyone except boat owners for legitimate security reasons. This may not be a bad idea. Increased boat ownership has resulted in a shortage of marina berths throughout Europe, particularly for boats of 10+m . Morecambe bay has good access to potential boat owners. Many modern marinas are part of the town centre with accommodation, shops, restaurants, and technical areas ( which provide employment ). Only the access pontoons themselves are closed to the public. There are problems to overcome : If mooring fees are too high, boat owners can moor their boat abroad and fly out with low cost airlines. It is a massive investment, with a long payback Marina access would be severely restricted to perhaps only 3 hrs per high tide (No tidal restrictions in the Med and deep water marinas in UK). Morecambe Bay is a restricted cruising ground due to its sandy nature. Short cruises would be limited to the 3 hr window or have to wait for the next tide. The current recession may be reducing demand locally. www.bwml.co.uk/marina/6/glasson+basin+marina is well established. I have kept a boat here for many years - www.portcamargue.com/index.php?langue=GB - so have some experience. Peter

It is the very nature of the tide in Morecambe which makes the whole idea a nonesense, in my opinion. The idea of boats berthed at a marina is not a bad one but buildings housing all the ancilliary stuff would block the very same view that the 'Anti Ugly Tower Block' brigade are fighting to save.

I know who's behind the marina project and they're f'all to do with the MBI's. For the marina project to suceed, they need to work with Urban Splash which this particular person has been doing.
IF the MBIs have their own marina plan then it's just another attempt to derail the Midland development.
Absolutely pathetic leaflet and pathetic politics, I like the way they invite feedback on the back page and if you've still got the leaflet, let us know how ;D ;D ;D
If there was a half decent opposition we might not have this expensive bunch of councillors in town but the opposition couldn't even field an eligible candidate at the last election.

I have emailed Cllr. Burns and await her response with interest. I signed up to the think tank idea they had but unfortunately I was away on holiday when the last meeting took place and have heard nothing since. I did email my apolology for absence but did not receive a response.

I couldn't find any contact details apart from 90 Broadway in tiny print in the publishers details. Had a few good birthday parties at her hotel, I was at school with her son.

Stew I finally opened it on another machine - why do people encode Word documents? We got this little gem too but I didn't think if worthy of mention. I am not sure I understand your reference to Cllr. Archer being on her own. I have emailed them

Evelyn stood down as chair of the MBIs last year due to family commitments and is now listed as "Free Independents" on the official council web site. www.thevisitor.co.uk/news/morecambe-and-district-news/evelyn_archer_resigns_1_1213843The only independence I seek is independence from Evelyn Archer. Her leaflets should carry a health warning, Danger to Morecambe. Never realised the MBIs have a wikipedia page. They've used the town logo which Morecambe levied council tax payers have just funded to be bought back by the council. Put simply, the logo is copyright Morecambe Town Council. I wonder if the MBIs have asked to use it and how much they've been charged for it. ;D en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Morecambe_Bay_Independents

I have nothing personal against any of the Councillors but I just wish they would have the common decency to reply to emails I have sent.
Do they have the same disregard for constituency issues? If this is the case, it really does reinforce the notion that they are in it for themselves and not for the good of Morecambe.

I've had no reply from any of the councillors who I've emailed. I know one personally but I've never discussed politics with them, we only meet socially with friends and I'm not going to put them on the spot in those circumstances. They started in MTC as the odd one out.
One day I'll be in town when they've got a council meeting and I'll just sit quietly and stare at them. I wonder how they'd react if they were asked what the process was to scrap MTC?

Don't see much point in a Town Council who are not contactable and are not prepared to discuss issues with the electorate. I can just as easily email the Muppets in Westminster and be ignored.
If anyone from MTC actually reads this, Independants or those from the supposed established parties, at least have the decency to acknowledge that the general public in Morecambe actually exist. I have tried several times to contact you via your pathetic website, the email address on your propaganda leaflet and the email address on your Independance 4 Morecambe postcard and I have received nothing, nil, nada, nowt or not a 'kin thing in reply. As a public body, you are at best, a joke and at worst - well you tell me!!
