Work on the new travel lodge is progressing but not sure how far they have got. I understand they have had to reinforce the foundations of the existing building to cope with the extra weight. Thought I would start a thread and keep updating it from time to time. What cofuses me about these hoardings is why there are big gates on the view below. They only completed the new crossing earlier this year so it would be silly to demolish it for access.

Have the shops that were there relocated to elsewhere in the town?
I see what you mean about the big access gates. Do they have any other way that big trucks and what have you could get in?

Oh, I felt a bit sad looking at that. Still wondering about where those shops are now. What does it look like from the other end Keef? Is that thing still there that has the Morecambe coat of arms on?

The other end still has that thing with the Coat of Arms on.
There is a digger and some other vehicles in there which had to enter by way of the pedestrianised area. OK when it just an odd vehicle but I wonder what will happen when the steel work is delivered and lifted into place? I doubt they would get an artic truck through there. Maybe they will load it from the Central Drive end - some big trucks and a big crane, that will be some chaos to look forward to. I see they have taken down the Arndale sign to make room for something.

I thought they would have built it on the other side of Euston Road , then they would have had a car park. ?

I can see the sense in building it there, people coming into Moecambe down Euston Road will see the big sign from a long way away.

There have been a few changes although this is a little out of date - note to self - "must get out more" If you notice, they have removed the railings and are backing in some rather large trucks into there. I know because I was stuck there for 10 mins. one morning, never again.

Will the pound shop be staying? I would imagine it will as it moved out of one of the demolished shops.

I see the pound shop has a nice line in hi-viz workwear for the builders on the site. ;D
